You Were Never Meant to Do This Alone

Written By Rebecca Johnson

For a long time, I believed that if God gave me something to do…
it was my responsibility to figure it out alone.

If I had an idea, I would just get on with it.
No questions. No help. No community.

Just me.

And if I’m honest, I wore that mindset like a badge of honour. Independence felt like strength. Doing it all by myself felt like proof that I was capable.

But recently, I had a revelation:

God never designed me to do life alone.

Community Reflects Who God Is

When you really think about it, God Himself exists in community.

Father. Son. Holy Spirit.

Three in one. Always in relationship. Always in connection.

So if we are made in His image, why would we believe we are meant to live in isolation?

From the very beginning, God said:

“It is not good for man to be alone…” — Genesis 2:18

That wasn’t just about relationships or marriage,
it was about the human condition.

We were created for connection.
For support.
For shared life.

The Lie of “I Have to Do This Alone”

Somewhere along the way, I picked up the belief that everything was on me.

That if God gave me a vision, I had to carry it by myself.
That asking for help meant I wasn’t strong enough.
That relying on others was risky.

But that mindset? It’s exhausting.

And it’s not from God.

Because the truth is:

God doesn’t just give vision, He gives people.

God Invites You Into Partnership

When God places something on your heart, He’s not saying,
“Go and figure it out alone.”

He’s saying:

“Let’s do this together.”

With Him.
And with others.

We see this all throughout Scripture, God constantly works through people, partnerships, and community. No one was meant to carry purpose in isolation.

Even Jesus walked with disciples.

Even He didn’t do it alone.

You Are Not Alone, Even When It Feels Like It

There’s another layer to this too.

Even in your quiet moments…
even when no one else is around…

you are not alone.

God is with you.

Guiding you.
Strengthening you.
Walking with you through every step.

“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” — Hebrews 13:5

So the idea that you have to carry everything by yourself?
It’s simply not true.

Letting Go of Self-Reliance

I’m learning to let go of that “I’ll do it myself” mindset.

To invite God into every idea.
To allow people to be part of the journey.
To trust that community is not a weakness, it’s a gift.

Because when we do life together:

  • We grow faster
  • We heal deeper
  • We go further

An Invitation

If you’ve been carrying everything on your own…
this is your reminder:

You don’t have to.

God never asked you to do life alone.
He never asked you to build alone.
He never asked you to carry the vision alone.

Closing Thought

You were created from community.
You were created for community.
And you are sustained through community.

So the next time God gives you an idea, don’t isolate yourself.

Invite Him in.
Invite others in.

And watch what happens when you stop doing life alone.
