Recently, I had a sobering moment.
One of those quiet, reflective pauses where everything slows down and you realise something deeper:
There is more to life than this.
More than the stress.
More than the noise.
More than the things we fix our attention on every single day.
And if I’m honest, I had to confront something uncomfortable: My gaze had been in the wrong place.
What Are We Really Looking At?
It’s so easy to get caught up in life.
Deadlines.
Opinions.
Comparison.
Pressure.
Small frustrations that feel big in the moment. And without even realising it, our eyes shift.
From Jesus…To everything else.
We don’t mean for it to happen. It’s subtle. But over time, what we focus on begins to shape how we feel, how we think, and how we respond.
Peter Stepped Out… Until He Didn’t
In Matthew 14, Peter does something incredible. He steps out of the boat and begins to walk on water toward Jesus. But then something changes.
The wind becomes louder.
The waves feel stronger.
Fear creeps in.
And Scripture says:
“But when he saw the wind, he was afraid…” (Matthew 14:30)
Peter didn’t sink because Jesus wasn’t there. He sank because his focus shifted.
Where Your Eyes Go, Your Life Follows
That moment hit me deeply. Because how often do we do the same?
We start in faith.
We step out in obedience.
We trust God.
But then life happens. And suddenly, our focus is no longer on Jesus,
it’s on the storm. And when our gaze shifts, so does our peace.

What If We Really Fixed Our Eyes on Jesus?
I started asking myself: What would happen if I truly fixed my eyes on Jesus?
Would I worry less?
Would I overthink less?
Would I stop magnifying things that don’t actually matter? Would the arguments that feel so serious suddenly feel… small?
Would I move with more peace?
More clarity?
More purpose?
And deeper than that, what could we accomplish for His Kingdom if we stopped being distracted?
A Gentle Realignment
This isn’t about guilt. It’s about realignment. Because the truth is, we all drift.
But Jesus is always there, calling us back. Just like He reached for Peter, He reaches for us.
Not to condemn us, but to steady us.
