Harvest Season: What Are You Planting for the Year Ahead?

The other day, I bought a small stuffed pumpkin — just a cute little décor piece to brighten my space. But when I looked at the label, it read one simple word: HARVEST.

Now, I know this might sound funny, but it only just hit me — pumpkins are part of the harvest season! I’d always thought the autumn “pumpkin craze” was just something people made up to sell more candles and coffee. But in reality, this is the season when farmers gather what they’ve spent months planting, watering, and nurturing.

It got me thinking — what if we started viewing our lives that way too?
What if we started planting seeds now for the harvest we want to see next year?

Planting with Purpose

In John 4:35–38, Jesus said:

“Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’?
Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!”

In other words, the harvest is closer than you think.
We often wait for the “perfect season” to start sowing — when we have more time, more money, more confidence. But Jesus reminds us that the fields are already ready — we just have to look up, recognize the opportunity, and start planting.

Maybe that looks like:

  • Sowing seeds of faithfulness in your prayer life.
  • Planting kindness in your relationships.
  • Cultivating discipline in your habits.
  • Watering your dreams with obedience and consistency.

Farmers don’t wait for a feeling to plant — they prepare in faith, trusting that what they sow will one day grow.

Reaping the Harvest

The thing about harvest is — it doesn’t happen overnight.
You don’t see the fruit the same day you plant the seed.
But if you stay faithful in the unseen, you’ll one day rejoice in the harvest.

“He who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life,
that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.” – John 4:36

I love that — both the sower and the reaper rejoice together.
You might be planting seeds today that someone else will harvest. Or maybe you’re walking in blessings that someone before you prayed and labored for. Either way, God promises that nothing sown in faith is ever wasted.

What Are You Planting for 2026?

As this year comes to a close and we enter a new one, I want to challenge you —
what seeds are you planting now for next year’s harvest?

Because the harvest doesn’t start when you see fruit —
it starts the moment you sow in faith.

Take time to write down what you want to see grow in your life:
– Your faith,
– Your ministry,
– Your relationships,
– Your peace,
– Your influence.

Then ask God, “What do I need to sow today to see that harvest tomorrow?”
