Build on the Rock: Establishing a Firm Foundation in Christ

Written by Rebecca Johnson

As women in the Raising Esthers Ministry, we are called to build our lives on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ. Just like the wise man who built his house on the rock (Matthew 7:24-25), we must anchor ourselves in His Word, His love, and His truth. When our foundation is Jesus, no storm, struggle, or setback can shake us.

Let’s consider a simple, familiar story: the Three Little Pigs.
The first two pigs built their houses quickly—one of straw, the other of sticks—looking for comfort and ease. But when the wolf came, their houses couldn’t stand against the pressure. Only the third pig, who took the time to build a strong house of bricks, was able to withstand the attack.

In many ways, we are like those pigs. When we build our lives with temporary materials—depending on culture, popularity, or our own understanding—we find ourselves vulnerable when trials come. But when we build with faith, obedience, and God’s Word, we create something lasting. We build brick by brick on the solid rock of Christ.

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”Matthew 7:24 (NIV)

🌱 What Does It Mean to Build on the Rock?

  • Listening to God’s Word
  • Obeying even when it’s hard
  • Staying rooted in prayer
  • Surrounding yourself with godly community
  • Trusting God’s plan, not just your own

This world is filled with shifting values, unexpected storms, and constant noise. But you, woman of God, are being called to build with intention. The wise builder doesn’t rush. She lays each brick with purpose, knowing that her security is not in what she builds, but who she builds it on.
